Sunday 24th June – The 4th Sunday after Trinity

We have just one service in Bramley this week – our annual Open Air Songs of Praise Service on Clift Meadow at 10.30am.

We shall be welcoming the Tadley Band to accompany a selection of our favourite hymns.  We very much hope that you will come along and join in our time of worship!

After the service there will be tea, coffee and delicious cookies…

Word for the Week

Many people, even regular churchgoers who’ve been Christians for years, think that God will accept them because of the good things they do, or the bad things they don’t do.

But our reading in Philippians today corrects that thinking, emphasising to us that God is willing to accept us because of what Christ has done, not because of what we do or don’t do.

From a religious point of view, Paul the apostle had done everything right – “a Hebrew of Hebrews… circumcised.. a Pharisee… as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.”  But having seen Jesus and His perfect righteousness, Paul describes all his own qualifications as “rubbish”.

The only way that we can truly be righteous comes not from ourselves, nor from our own behaviour, however hard we try.  We can only get that kind of righteousness by putting our faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

That’s because He is the only one ever to have lived the kind of life that was righteous by God’s perfect standard.  And He died on the cross, innocent of all sin, so that we could receive His righteousness as a gift when we entrust our lives to Him.  Then it’s as if, when God looks at us, He sees the righteousness of Jesus covering up all our imperfections, making us acceptable in His sight.

Monday   Philippians 3:1-9
Tuesday   Romans 3:20-24
Wednesday   2 Corinthians 5:16-21
Thursday   Romans 5:6-10
Friday   Titus 3:3-8
Saturday   Philippians 3:10-21
