This Week’s Services

There is just one service in Bramley and Little London this coming Sunday, 30th September:

  • 10.30 Harvest Festival – St James

Following the service, we shall all be meeting to enjoy a Harvest Lunch together in Cross House:  we hope that as many people as possible will come along.  Just add your name to the list in the church porch, or email John Lenton ( in order to book your place – adults £10 each, children free.

Our speaker at the Harvest Service will be the Revd. Stephen Ball, our Priest in Charge.

Word for the Week

We all value good service in a shop or a restaurant; we like to be treated as a human being, not simply as a number or an object or a target.  So what does it take for someone to provide really good service?

The best acts of service occur when the one serving puts aside their own interests in order to meet the interests of the person they are serving.  So the shop assistant, when asked where a particular item can be found, doesn’t just pause from what they’re doing and say “Aisle 8, left hand side”, but puts aside what they’re doing, takes you to the right place, and then asks if there’s anything else they can help you with.

Jesus is calling His disciples – and us – to an even higher level of service, when He says, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”  It’s an attitude of mind which serves everyone, not just people we know and love, even those who are rude or ungrateful or dismissive – and does it without ever counting the cost or expecting praise, thanks or appreciation.

That is how Jesus Himself served the needs of the whole world, giving Himself freely and fully to us, the utterly undeserving.

Other Services in our Benefice

Our parish of Bramley and Little London is part of a group of parishes known as a Benefice. We work together, sharing resources and helping one another out when needed, while also retaining our individual styles and preferences as we worship the living God.

There is just one service in the other churches in our Benefice this coming Sunday, 30th September:

  • 10.00am, St Leonard’s, Sherfield-on-Loddon: Benefice Holy Communion
